FAQs

What kind of Wi-Fi infrastructure do I need?

Vestac’s RTLS devices work with any Enterprise Class Wi-Fi network that includes a location appliance.

What is a typical enterprise network deployment architecture?

The figure depicts a typical enterprise network deployment architecture using a location appliance. The Vestac 220Bi tags send CCX chirps to the Access Points which are used for triangulation by the location appliance. The location information can be access and displayed by 3rd Party applications. In areas with sparse Wi-Fi coverage, the Vestac 330Xi IR Transmitter are used to augment the location accuracy to room level.

Is there any alternative deployment scenario which does not require a location appliance?

Yes. However, in this scenario the IR is used as a chokepoint technology for locationing while the Wi-Fi is only used to transmit the chokepoint presence data. This scenario is depicted below.

Does Vestac provide a Wi-Fi locationing appliance?

Currently, Vestac does not supply the locationing appliance but since the tags operate in CCX chirp mode, they are compatible with 3rd party Location Appliances from Cisco, Aruba, and others.

Does Vestac provide a tracking GUI based application?

Vestac does not supply GUI based applications. GUI based applications are supplied through Vestac’s partners such as Mobile Matrix and others.

What is a typical deployment for the Vestac 220Bi tags and the 330Xi IR Transmitters?

The Vestac 220Bi are attached to assets to provide real-time tracking information. In areas with no or sparse Wi-Fi coverage, the Vestac 330Xi IR Transmitters are used to augment the location accuracy to room level. The figure depicts the typical hospital deployment leveraging an enterprise wireless network with location appliance.

What are the typical applications for the Vestac 220Bi Asset Tags and the 330Xi IR Transmitters?

The Vestac products have many applications, such as:

  • Asset tracking to sub-room level accuracy
  • Equipment Utilization and Optimization
  • Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Mobile Workforce Efficiency
  • Resource Management
  • Safety & Security Applications
  • Warehousing

What do I need to test the system in a lab?

In an enterprise network environment incorporating a location appliance, only Vestac 220Bi Asset Tags and 330Xi IR Transmitters are needed. In an environment without a location appliance, a wireless sniffer is required to capture 802.11 packets (see answer to Question 3). Vestac can also supply data parsing applications to assist in your application development.

What are the dimensions of the Vestac 220Bi Asset Tag?

Dimensions: Standard Tag is 2.75” x 1.85” x 0.31” (70mm x 47mm x 8mm). Compact Tag is 1.85″ x 1.46″ x 0.55″ (47mm x 37mm x 14mm)

What is the battery life of the Vestac 220Bi Asset Tag?

Battery life of the Vestac 220Bi Asset Tag is dependent on the chirp rate settings for motion and no motion. With a default motion chirp rate of 10 seconds and a no motion chirp rate of 5 minutes, the battery life exceed 5 years. Setting the motion chirp rate to 60 seconds can extend battery life beyond 6 years.

What is the battery life of the Vestac 330Xi IR Transmitter?

The battery life of the Vestac 330Xi IR Transmitter is up to 2 years using standard AA lithium polymer batteries.

What is the cost?

Despite the breakthrough features and better functionality, the cost of the Vestac 220Bi Multi-Modal Wi-Fi + IR tag is comparable or substantially lower than existing Wi-Fi tags that are currently on the market. Please contact sales@vestac.com to inquire on volume pricing.
